FAQ

What is the general format of the tournament?

A typical tournament starts with 4 rounds of Round-Robin. In these 4 games, you will be given a random partner each game and are playing for your seat in the bracket. Once the 4 rounds are complete, players move into Double-Elimination. In these rounds, you will be matched with the same partner throughout the bracket.

Do we have to use the Round-Robin / Double-Elimination format?

No, there a few different formats to choose from and the tournaments are tailored to the clients vision of their event.

What are the different formats to choose from?

Round Robin:

-Teams play a set number of games against each other.

-Can be used with set teams, random teams, or a blind draw (where players are randomly paired up).

-Scoreholio allows for more teams than courts, streamlining the tournament process.
Single/Double Elimination:

-Single elimination is a classic format where teams are eliminated after a single loss.

-Double elimination allows teams to recover from a loss in a second round.
-Scoreholio automatically generates playoff brackets and assigns teams to courts, according to Scoreholio.
Switcholio:
-A unique format where every player gets a new partner for each game.
-Scoreholio allows for any number of players, making it flexible for different sized events.

  -Scoreholio automates the pairing process.

Swissholio:
-A round-robin tournament where each round waits for the previous one to finish.

-Teams are sorted based on record, total points, and points against.

-Scoreholio automatically fills the next round with teams, avoiding duplicate matchups.

Pool Play:
-Teams are divided into pools, and each team plays a set number of games within their pool.

-Teams with the most points in their pool advance to a final playoff bracket.

How long does the tournament take?

The amount of time needed to for a tournament depends on the structure of the games as well as the number of players. It also depends on the players themselves. Each game can take anywhere from a few minutes to several minutes depending one how evenly matched the teams are since the points cancel themselves. Then, the number of games each team plays in both the rounders as well as the bracket.

How many players can be in the tournament?

Each court accommodates 2 teams of 2 (4 players).

Each full-sized court requires approximately 40' x 8'. Each mini-sized court requires approximately 20' x 7'.  Underdogz can currently provide up to 10 full-sized courts.  We can also provide up to 5 mini-sized courts.

What does Underdogz bring to the tournament?

We will bring everything that is needed to run a successful tournament. We have the boards, bags, scoreboards and stands. We set up a table for the players to check-in at where we have a speaker that we use to play music and call out the court assignments.

Are the players allowed to bring their own bags?

Absolutely. We encourage players to bring their own bags. We don't recommend bringing "backyard" bags since players share their bags with their team mate and the backyard bags are of substandard quality.
